Puerto Morelos is an unique Mexican seaside town which is the hidden serene tropical utopia that travelers long search for but most never find.

It's a charming small Caribbean town where the community consists of colorful artists, expats, and local fishermen. You can sit and have a margarita and watch the town square where children play soccer with waves breaking on the reef in the background, and the local fishermen showing off their freshly caught grouper. The town of Puerto Morelos has a unique personality and high regard to the nature surrounding it.

Puerto Morelos has the advantage of being conveniently located midway between the towns of Cancun and Playa del Carmen at the start of the Mayan Riviera, making it an ideal location to explore all of the areas nearby attractions. A 20 minute drive south of the Cancun airport.

The Great Mayan Reef a National Park, is only a short 200 yards from the beach and is an ideal place to enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving with a wide array of Caribbean fish. Another popular option that the reef provides is to go fishing for the day and fish for sailfish, red snapper, dorado, barracuda, and marlin off the backend of the reef with www.PuertoMorelosFishing.com.

Many of our renters over the years say they just love Puerto Morelos because "it reminds them of what Playa del Carmen was like 10 or so years ago, a quaint Mexican Beach Town." The difference with Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen is that Puerto Morelos has been able to maintain a low-key residential community; all the huge all-inclusive resorts are set apart from the actual town. Many of Puerto Morelos local residence are working fishermen, and you will enjoy watching them arrive back to the pier in the afternoon with their boats full of fish, take an walk on the beach you will see the local fishing boats docked for the night.

The Cancun & Playa del Carmen lack the colonial town setting that most of the rest of Mexico has, however the exception is Puerto Morelos which has a town square surrounded by neighborhood shops, restaurants and the heart of the community the Church. The town square is the center of activity, most any night of the week there is a soccer game going on (Mexican's call it futbol), there is a play ground area for the kids and a gazebo that at times have band playing and on Wednesdays the center of town host a farmers market
