Things To Do Many of our guest have enjoyed the following sightseeing side trips: Since these can be very popular it is a good idea to purchase tickets before hand.

ECO Parks

   

The largest Eco Park is Xcaret, a "whole day & evening" Eco Zoo - Bat Cave, Sea Turtles, Mushroom Farm, Butterfly Pavilion, Reptiles, Sharks, a Coral Reef Exhibit, Jaguars and Local Animals, Parrots and lots of trails with tropical flowers and plants.

Water Activities - Underground River, Lagoon for Snorkeling, Beach, Wading and Tide Pools and Swim with the Dolphins

Mayan Culture - Mayan Village and the Night Show is a recreation of a Mayan festival including dance and an ancient Mayan game called Ulama, a very entertaining show educating you on the history of the Mayans and their Culture. 

Xel-Ha - The Snorkeling Heaven (ishel-ha) is a great pick for 1st time snorkeling, or people whom do not want to open water snorkeling on windy days when the ocean is rough. The park is a large natural inlet that has a small opening to the ocean making it a natural aquarium for all kinds of fish and sea life. There is a fresh spring water river that flows threw a mangrove, down to the inlet - you can inter tube down. You can see cenotes and they have a small Mayan cave, or just find one of the hidden areas with hammocks.

Mayan Ruins

Tulum is about an hour drive south from the Puerto Morelos / Playa del Secreto. It is small but very spiritual, located on top the 50 foot-high cliffs with the blue waters of the Caribbean as a backdrop.

A morning trip to Tulum makes a nice day trip is combined with a trip to Xel-Ha in the afternoon. If you have never seen a Mayan Ruin before and are not sure you want to spend a whole day going to one of the large sites in the Yucatan, this is a good choice for you.

 

 

 

 

 

Chichen Itza was the most important ancient city of the Mayan Culture, a center for religion, trade and politics. It is the largest and most impressive of the Mayan Ruins that lay within a day's trip distance from the Mayan Riviera area.

I suggest that if you have a group going contact www.cancunvalet.com for a trip - they will pick you up from the villa and drive you both ways, the driver can stop on the way for lunch or dinner and they provide a cooler and car seats - runs $350 for up to 12 people.

When you go you should pay for Private Guide - you really get the most of out the trip and learn a lot about the Mayan Culture that you will miss on your own. There is also a night light show that you don't want to miss. It's open 8am to 9pm. It's located 149 miles from Cancun towards Merida, and takes approximately 2.5 hours to get there.

Aquatic Sports

 We encourage all of our renters to spend a day on the beautiful reef that runs along the coast (the 2nd largest coral reef in the world) - the portion of this reef that runs in front of Puerto Morelos is a national park - weather you are a diver, fisherman or you like to snorkel it will make your trip to the area very special.

  We suggest Diving Dog Tours out of Puerto Morelos for Fishing and Snorkeling. Longtime citizen of Puerto Morelos Kathy Loretta runs this operation. In the last 3 years since I have used Diving Dog Tours as our Fishing/Snorkeling Service, my guest have had nothing but great reviews, they are reliable, return emails promptly and are very informative. Kathy has a the best antidotes and "fish" tales to tell. I have had other services forget appointments, get too drunk to fish, cheat customers on hours out fishing, change prices etc; this service will take good care of you. Paco dose the snorkeling and is really good with kids, takes them by the hand and teaches them how to snorkeling and points out all the fish and sea life, and explains what each is called. Kathy goes with the fishing trips if there's room (and she can skip out from work.)

   We suggest Aquanauts Dive Adventures for Dive Shop that's right in town. They offer a full set of PADI courses from Beginners "Bubblemakers" to a 1 day Scuba Refresher to an Open Water Advanced course for PADI certification. They are happy to develop a Personal Dive package just for you; like the “Almost Enough Time to Relax” Package (8 tank local ocean dives over 4 days.) Want to Dive at Cozumel? They offer that not many Dive Sjps in Puerto Morelos do. They have Night Dives, Cenote Dives and the "Two Tank Twilight Dive" (1st dive before sun set, 2nd dive is a night dive) and your standard 1 or 2 tank dives.

ATV and Snorkel at Chaak Tun Excursion

ATV threw the jungle that will let you experience the tropical plants and perhaps a you will see some of the local birds, iguanas and small lizards. The ATV’s are the Outlander type and you are required to use the helmet and goggles provided. After the ATV ride you will go to the Ecopark Chaak Tun a truly beautiful Ecosystem filled with caverns of stalactites and stalagmites and the clearest water that you can easily see threw from the natural spring.  The Eco Guide will teach you all about the formation of this wonder that the Mayans named Chaak Tun meaning Rain of Stone. You can then snorkel in the cenote and swim among the stalactites and stalagmites a Dive Master will be your guide.

The professionals at White Health Spa will come directly to the villa to give you a massage or beauty treatment. Chose from: Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, a Simply Back Message, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi Massage or a Combination of any of the above. If your body's out of "balance" they have a Hot Stone Message or Message with Aromatherapy to center you. Or they also offer beauty treatments such as Salt Exfoliation, Manicure or Pedicure and Facials.
